American Conservative Union

Assigns a 0-100 score of conservatism to members of Congress based on three categories. Data are available as excel files.

Correlates of War

Collection of datasets looking at measures of diplomacy, conflict, as well as state formation and fluctuation. Some of the datasets reach back to the early Nineteenth century.

Freedom House

Creates a ten year measure of political liberties and civil rights for each country. However, the data are not found in one file, and must be collected from each country page.

U.S. Census Bureau

Datasets and maps of population demographics by Congressional District or State. Most data are stored as a delimited text file (so you will need to use Excel or SPSS to turn the commas and tabs into separate columns).

World Health Organization (U.N.)

50 health indicators since 1997 for 192 countries. Data can be downloaded as a delimited text file (you must use Excel or SPSS to convert it into a usable format).

World Values Survey

Survey data on political, religious, and cultural values. Early “waves” focused on Europe, later waves have broadened to include 62 countries around the globe. You need to register to download the data.
